Searching for a fresh cultural identity and nationhood the first Prime Minister of independent India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru dreamt, conceived and established a few major agencies of culture that rejuvenate and formulate the diverse Indian cultural practices and promote them to play a comprehensive role in the making of a nation.

Indian Art Centre, one among such National agencies, emerged as the principal establishment of culture that focuses its activities in the field of visual arts such as Paintings, Sculptures, Graphics, Photography, Ceramics and other arts allied to the field of fine arts. The Centre is an autonomous organisation fully funded by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Government of India.
